Berkeley Center for New Media

August 2023 - May 2024

The Tunnel was a groundbreaking electronic music event aimed to shed light on upcoming producers and artists in the Bay Area.

This event was particularly special as it was a project I was given complete creative freedom over and led from concept to execution, pouring my heart into every detail – from coming up with brand design to scanning QR codes at the door. I am delighted to share that we surpassed revenue estimates by an incredible 53%.

At the Berkeley Center for New Media (BCNM), I embarked on a multifaceted journey contributing to the institute's digital presence and outreach strategies.

Commencing as a Content Designer, I utilized Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop to craft visually compelling materials that resonated with our audience and conveyed BCNM's ethos effectively. These materials included article title templates, website banners, mobile formatted reels and shorts templates, along with an animated logo which were added into our CMS. Driven by a passion for versatile communication, I gradually transitioned into content writing, enriching articles hosted on bcnm.berkeley.edu. This expansion not only broadened my skill set but also enhanced the depth and relevance of our online content. Recognizing the importance of organization and accessibility in digital content, I pioneered the development of a sophisticated tag system for categorizing articles on our website. This initiative streamlined navigation for our audience, facilitating seamless exploration of BCNM's diverse array of topics and resources.

Beyond conventional platforms, I spearheaded innovative approaches to enhance BCNM's social media presence. Leveraging tools such as reels and animations, I orchestrated campaigns aimed at amplifying our reach within the UC campus community. Through strategic content curation and captivating visuals, I effectively augmented our follower base and fostered heightened engagement across various social media channels. In tandem with social media management, I assumed responsibility for overseeing BCNM's YouTube channel, leveraging Final Cut Pro to curate dynamic and informative video content. This endeavor allowed us to harness the power of visual storytelling, effectively communicating BCNM's mission and initiatives to a broader audience.

UI Project

Culminating my tenure at BCNM, I embarked on a pivotal project centered around the design and implementation of graphics and user interface elements for the institute's course website.

1. Research and Conceptualization: Conducting thorough research into Indigenous cultures, histories, and educational practices laid the foundation for the project. Collaborating closely with Indigenous scholars and community members, I gained invaluable insights into their perspectives and preferences. This informed the conceptualization phase, where I outlined key thematic elements and navigational structures for the website.

2. Visual Identity and Graphics: Drawing inspiration from Indigenous art, symbols, and motifs, I crafted a visually striking yet culturally respectful aesthetic for the website. Utilizing Adobe Illustrator, I developed graphics and iconography that honored Indigenous traditions while maintaining modern design principles. Each element was meticulously designed to reflect the diversity and vibrancy of Indigenous cultures.

3. Layout Mock-ups: Leveraging design tools such as Figma, I created comprehensive layout mock-ups that encapsulated the intended user experience. The layout prioritized intuitive navigation, with clear pathways to educational resources, cultural events, and community forums. Emphasis was placed on creating a harmonious balance between informative content and interactive features, ensuring engagement and retention among users.

4. Accessibility and Inclusivity: Recognizing the importance of accessibility, I integrated features such as alternative text descriptions for images and customizable font sizes to accommodate diverse user needs.

The Indigenous Learning Website emerged as a testament to BCNM's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The UI design seamlessly integrated Indigenous aesthetics with modern functionality, creating an immersive and educational digital platform accessible to learners of all backgrounds. Feedback from Indigenous scholars and community members underscored the success of the project in authentically representing their cultures and facilitating meaningful engagement with Indigenous knowledge.
